The Piano of Debussy: Heritage of Chopin?

International Concert Pianist and Renowned Radio Presenter Maestro Philippe Cassard will be presenting a lecture on Debussy's music. Having presented more than 400 music programs on Radio France, we hope to bring this whole new experience of score-reading and personal interpretation to our audience.

Water Music by French Composers

Philippe Cassard has established an international reputation as concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician since giving a joint recital with Christa Ludwig in Paris in 1985. The same year he was finalist at the Clara Haskil Competition and in 1988 he won the First Prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition. His performance of the complete piano works of Debussy (four recitals in a single day) received extremely enthusiastic press and media coverage.

Schubert - The last Sonatas

Born in Besançon, Cassard was trained at the Conservatoire de Paris where he won two first prizes, for piano (Dominique Merlet's class) and for chamber music (Geneviève Joy's class) in 1982. He then spent two years (1983–85), at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Hans Graf's and Erik Werba's classes)

In 2012, Philippe becomes soprano Natalie Dessay’s exclusive pianist. They have performed in France, England (Barbican and Wigmore Hall in London), Ireland, Japan, Russia, Austria (Musikverein Vienna), Canada and USA (Carnegie Hall in New York)… The duet has recorded Debussy Songs, a French Mélodies album (Erato), and a Schubert’s Lieder programme (Sony Classical). He has recorded several discs dedicated to Schubert.

What it takes to be a Professional Pianist (Part 1)

Poom is regarded as one of the most accomplished Thai pianist today. His performances are highly considered for their lyrical intensity and virtuosity. He has already developed an international reputation as an outstanding performer of rare expressive depth, and has been acclaimed by critics who called him ”a young Ashkenazy” from ”Seen and Heard UK Concert Review”. in 2010, His complete and fantastic virtuosity place him in a class of his own. He has released his first solo debut CD in April 2015 with Champs Hill Records in the U.K. featuring works by Medtner, Liszt and Rachmaninoff which received great reviews in Europe, America and Asia.

 

He graduated Bachelor’s Degree in Performance with Hopkinson Gold Medal in 2011, Master’s Degree in Performance (Distinction) and the International Artist Diploma in Performance from the Royal College of Music in 2013 under Dina Parakhina’s class. In 2014, he was awarded the prestigious Tagore Gold Medal for his outstanding contribution to the Royal College of Music which was presented to him by The Prince of Wales at the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall in London. He took the Postgraduate Diploma under the world’s renowned pianists Eliso Virsaladze and Vladimir Tropp at the Moscow Conservatory, Russia. Most recently, he has won ICM’s award from the International Center for Music’s Park University to study with Stanislav Ioudenitch, a Van Cliburn International Piano Competition’s Gold medalist.

How to prepare for Piano Competitions/Auditions/Exams (Part 2)

Poom began his piano lessons with Peerapong Surawan in Bangkok, later with Rena Phua and Boris Kraljevic at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. He attained the FTCL Diploma from Trinity College at the age of 15. In 2008, he was granted a full scholarship by H.R.H. Princess Galyani Vadhana which enabled him to continue his studies in London where he was the last student of a legendary pianist, Yonty Solomon. The scholarship was continued and supervised by the kind support of Thanpuying Tasna-Valaya Sorasongkram for his higher studies in London until his graduation in 2014. His international performing career has started when he won First Prize in the Fifth Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition, Serbia in 2010. He made a victory in his homeland by winning First Prize in Thailand International Piano Competition in 2011. Followed by his continued success by winning First Prize in Sussex International Piano Competition in 2013. After his success in Serbia which marked his international career, his repertoires have included over 30 concertos.

 

He is one of a few pianists in recent years and the first Thai pianist to have championed Sir Arthur Bliss’s Piano Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with Worthing Symphony Orchestra in 2014 with great acclaim.
